How to Grow Easter Wheat Grass

I first did a post about how to grow wheat grass for easter about 12 years ago on the blog. My two biggest kids were tiny and my younger two weren’t even born yet. It’s been fun to watch them grow up on my blog and crazy to think how long we’ve been doing this! I don’t have teeny tiny kids at home any more but my 11 year old still thinks it’s fun to have live grass in a basket for Easter and my husband is excited to try to eat wheatgrass because I’ve been touting all the health benefits of it to him.

I figured since I was making the easter grass baskets anyway I might as well film a video tutorial for those who are more visual and prefer to learn that way over a long written post about it. Hope you enjoy!

Actor Steven Krueger Relies on Sports to Stay Competitive in Hollywood

Steven Krueger is the versatile actor who first found fame by appearing in “Pretty Little Liars” and “Two and a Half Men” before bagging the memorable role of “Josh Rosza” on “The Originals.”

Now, as “Ben Scott” in “Yellowjackets,” Krueger plays the assistant coach to the young women’s soccer team, but tells Muscle & Fitness that building his physique up to the point that he is believable as a sports coach has not been easy. Fortunately, having played tennis seriously in his youth, Krueger has a competitive spirit that still influences him to this day.

So, ahead of the highly anticipated return of “Yellowjackets” (Showtime, March 26), we sat down with the star to find out more.

“I started playing tennis when I was 4 years old,” says Krueger. “I played all the way through high school and started to get very competitive with it. The problem with me, growing up, is that I was the same height as I am now. I was 6’ 1” and w… Read More

Price Increase / Decrease Coming from Thrive Life

It’s no shock that prices are going up on EVERYTHING these days. My grocery budget, gas budget, travel budget, etc. have all had to increase. Unfortunately this also means that preparedness products and food storage are also getting more expensive, right at the same time that people are more and more concerned about supply chains, pandemics, civil unrest around the world, etc.

As most of you know, I buy most of my freeze-dried food storage from Thrive Life and they have done a pretty good job at avoiding price increases throughout the covid crisis, but the company has finally had to adjust prices on a few things due to their raw goods prices increasing so much. There is some good news though! Thrive has recently made some business acquisitions that has increased thei… Read More

Homemade Cream Puffs filled with ice cream and topped with hot fudge sauce for profiteroles.

Profiteroles are one of the world’s easiest and most impressive foods. Make your choux pastry ahead of time, pipe or scoop the pastry onto a lined sheet pan, then freeze.

You can transfer the frozen pucks of choux pastry dough (a.k.a. cream puff dough) into a zipper top bag and stash to bake later, making them not just impressive, but ridiculously convenient, too.

How to wake up early to run: 5 tips to make getting up early a little easier

Use these five tips to make it a little easier to get up a little earlier to run.

Lots of people are focusing in healthy habits in the New Year and doing morning workouts is one of the most popular. While I worked out in the evenings in college, once I graduated (ahem, many years ago) and started working full time, I started waking up to workout before work. That meant setting an alarm sometime between 5:15 – 5:30 a.m. for 15+ years so I could run before I went into the office. And even when I quit Corporate America to work for myself, I still woke up early to run with friends.

In the past few years, my schedule has changed dramatically since I have a two year old, but I really miss those early morning runs. I love the way it starts my day and how I feel like I have the whole day ahead of me before most people have even had coffee. Now, I often don’t finish my run until 9:30! But, I know that it’s just a phase.

But, o… Read More

Healthy Habits to Start in the New Year

Add these healthy habits to your New Year to start things off right!

2023 is HERE! I loved 2022 since I got to watch Thomas grow up SO much. And our second holiday season with him was extra special.

One of my favorite things about the New Year is kickstarting new habits. Over the next week or so, you’ll probably hear way too much about resolutions. Maybe you’re someone who LOVES resolutions. Or maybe you’re like me and don’t do resolutions at all. While I don’t do official resolutions, the new year always feels like a fresh start to emphasize healthy habits. Especially after the holidays when I don’t feel my absolute best, even following my own advice to stay healthy during the holidays.

One thing is for certain, healthy habits do NOT just include being physically fit and active, but also the way we handle our emotions, finances, social life, etc. And I don’t look for quick fixes. Rather, I a… Read More

Fresh Peach Cake (Barefoot Contessa)

Peach Cake
Fresh Peach Cake
Hello! I know, it’s been forever since my last blog post. I’ve been working, eating, catching Pokemon, listening to the Hamilton soundtrack, and hanging out with my friends and family. I have been baking, but most of the stuff are repeats or greatest hits (brownies, bundts, and cookies).

I’m now on Snapchat…so if you want to take a look at the mundane covered in stickers (isn’t that what Snapchat is about?!), then I’m @foodlibrarian on Snapchat.

So, onto this cake! It’s summer and that means hella stone fruit. However, I missed my weekly Farmer’s Market run and had to pick up peaches at the supermarket. Oh, the sadness. These peaches were so boring and lacking in flavor. I thought about adding them to a smoothie…and baking with them. I figure adding some sugar and spice would liven these up!
